Two new drop-ins for young people in East Hampshire

Connexions is reaching out to the young people of Petersfield and Horndean through two new drop-in services. Young people aged 13 to 19 in the area can talk to a Connexions Personal Adviser (PA) at the Petersfield Job Centre*. A PA is available by appointment from 2 – 4:30pm every Thursday and will be on hand to offer information, advice, guidance and support on many issues including careers, education and training, health and relationships, money, housing, personal development and volunteering.

The second of the new more convenient drop-ins is available at RKdia* in Horndean, and aims to attract young people from the Horndean, Cowplain and Clanfield area. A Connexions PA is available every Thursday from 4 – 6pm. This service will run alongside a youth group run by Hampshire Youth Service.

Both new drop-ins give young people living in Petersfield and Horndean better access to support services.

Screen Stars!

Young people from the Havant, Leigh Park and South East Hampshire Connect Forum are training to make their own DVD, which is supported by the BBC media suite at Park Community School.

The budding editors and directors are working with industry level equipment in three free evening sessions, kindly provided by Zoe Millett who works for BBC’s media suite.

Young people will design and film all aspects of the finished DVD, which should start appearing in schools and colleges in South East Hampshire after Christmas.

Model Behaviour

Volunteer models made an impression at Havant Town Fair and the Connexions photo shoot recently.

Photograph of the Connexions Youth Group modelling prom outfits in Havant town fair.

Eight girls dressed in prom outfits to support the town fair. Beautiful dresses and accessories were kindly provided by local business House of Weddings. It was a great experience for the models, who had also taken part in a professional photo shoot for Connexions earlier in the month. The pictures are proof that volunteering can be exciting and glamorous. Each volunteer received a certificate as well as a CD of over 100 photographs! Watch out for these faces!
