Young people from the New Forest, who have been referred to the e2e programme run by Hampshire Training Provider (HTP) in Lymington, have been very busy. The young people involved have chosen to support children in the Southampton general hospital this Christmas time.
They are asking all local businesses to support their project by either donating a small gift or making a contribution towards a gift for the children. In return for their donation, company's names will be added to HTP’s published company thank you letter.
The young people hope to deliver the presents on Monday 18th December 2006.
Alison Foster, Connexions Manager in the New Forest, and I have been meeting with four young people over the past few months. The purpose of the meetings is to train these young people to interview staff for Connexions and other services that work with, and for, young people in the New Forest.
The young people have been trained in equal opportunities, confidentiality, reading job descriptions and application forms, and how to short list application forms.
More training is planned surrounding assessment training, interview techniques, developing questions and mock interviews. This training will also help the young people when they are looking for a job in the future.
Training will be completed by January 2007 and the group have already had some interest from local bus companies that would like this panel to help with the recruitment of there new staff.

On Friday the 13th October, 65 young people took part in a event that encouraged them to discuss issues that were important to them. ’Shout About’ took place at the New Forest District Council offices and the day included workshops and a question panel of key decision makers.
There were a range of interactive workshops tackling a variety of issues including media, crime and education. During lunch young people had the chance to meet other young people and to take part in Dj-ing and circus activities.
Many interesting issues and questions were raised by young people during question time at the end of the day. The question panel included representatives from leisure, transport, media and the police.
The event was enjoyed by many and was a very productive day. Look out for the “Shout About” newsletter coming soon.
